Giuseppi’s Espresso Café Launches Satellite Location in Sonoran Spa on Sandy Beach

DSC_0025-2 Or, as María Bascelli, the owner, calls her new place, “the satellite from the Mother Ship”.  It’s a miniature Giuseppi’s located in the Activity Center at Sonoran Spa next to the mini-mart.  It is open from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. DSC_0017-2

If you are visiting, or living in the Sandy Beach area, besides the convenience, a good reason to stop by is for Giuseppi’s famous cinnamon buns—made with mashed potatoes!   They are uniquely delicious and compliment a cup of mocha café ma-h-h-velously.

The original Giuseppi’s Espresso Café on Fremont Street adjacent to the Black Dog Restaurant and (new) Casino has been the go to place DSC_0008-1 for breakfast and lunch in Rocky Point since around 1998.  Actually when María Bascelli, her husband and two daughters took over the space on Fremont it was for their Window Covering business.  There was so much extra space, however, she bought an original Italian espresso machine and started serving to locals. Starting with four walls, over the years María has added chairs, tables, counters, a kitchen, ovens, décor and created a comfortable, homey atmosphere revered by her many regulars.DSC_0016

She has dedicated many hours experimenting with menus and pastries to customize the choices to the palates of her friends, customers and their friends.  Right now in the Giuseppi’s ‘Mother Ship’ café you can have an American breakfast buffet loaded with choices. Like biscuits and gravy, potatoes, ham, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, pancakes, French toast and more. The buffet is available every Sunday from 8:00AM to12:00 Noon for $8.50 usd and $4.50 for kids 12 and under.

On weekends Giuseppi’s satellite espresso café at the Sonoran Spa offers breakfast burritos made fresh from the kitchen of the ‘Mother Ship’ with choices like ham, cheese and egg; chorizo and egg; egg, cheese and potato; beans, egg and cheese. Also you find an irresistible choice of fresh pastries made daily by María’s daughter, Anita, who is just one class away from Baker and Pastry Certification, a two year course offered by Estrella Mountain Community College.

When talking to María, it doesn’t take long to catch her pride in the art of making European style espresso originated in Italy, right down to her insistence on using the authentic Italian espresso machine.DSC_0021-2

One feels María’s commitment to the art of espresso brewing when she simplifies why Giuseppi’s espresso is the best: “It’s the beans, the machine, the knowledge, and it is made with Love.”

Go see for yourself.

We will be checking out Guissepes at Sonoran Spa which is right on the beach where we live in the winter.  We love Maria and her daughter Anita who are always friendly and efficient.  Their restaurant has the sparkling clean European at home feel.    The food is top quality.
